The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is coming to PC-

At the PlayStation showcase on Wednesday, Konami finally debuted a long-rumored remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, alongside a fresh “master collection” of the first three MGS games that is presumably an HD remaster. (Or a re-re-master of the 2011 MGS HD Collection).

The big question, though: is the remake coming to PC? Yes: a trailer uploaded by Konami after the showcase confirmed the remake for PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. You can watch it above while you chew on the new title: Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater.

This is a significant milestone for the series, as Metal Gear Solid 3—the best of them, for my money—has never been available on PC before. The first two games received contemporary Windows ports, though they weren’t exactly great.

Konami has now put up an official site for Metal Gear Solid Δ, which includes a message from the development team and some screenshots. Based on my memory, they’re all depicting areas from the first hour or so of the game.

“Currently, the development team are working together to create an environment where fans can experience and enjoy the Metal Gear series on the latest platforms,” says the message on the official site. “We are working hard for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.

Simultaneously, we will deliver the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection series, the most complete compilation that celebrates the 35th anniversary of the series. The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection allow fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms.”

Alas, the Master Collection release announced today doesn’t include the full swath of Metal Gear Solid games. Metal Gear Solid 4 appears to be left out of the revival—though there’s a rather pointed “Vol. 1” in the remaster announcement image below. The official site sure makes it sound like this collection will be comprehensive. Is it possible it’ll include every Metal Gear game in two or three volumes, including the 2D originals and the handheld spin-offs like Peace Walker and Acid? We’ll find out this year, it seems.

The re-releases of the first three games will be out this fall. There’s currently no date for the Snake Eater remake.
